Thoughts From A Victim Of The Recession
Before the recession I spent 11 years in the residential homebuilding industry. I say this so that you understand I was doing the same thing for a long time. In the BCR time (Before Current Recession), this was a good thing. Time in an industry was synonomus with experience. Experience gave a person a wealth of knowledge to draw from.Knowledge prepared that individual to adapt in times of change or crisis.

I’ve come to feel like a shell so hollow/
Not knowing what’s going to happen tomorrow/
I feel like my time is borrowed/
With the position I’m sitting in and the world crumbling around/
I’m filled with anger, pulsing with rage/
Fists getting bloody from beating the ground/
Trying to find a way to put a rhyme on the page/
Just felt so empty, unsure if it’s depression/
If I was religious I’d be spending days in confession/
With the thoughts I’ve had in the past that have begun to come true/
How could I have known that the more time passed/
The further my family grew/
What am I trying to prove by solving other’s problems/
Whether they involve me or not/
I’m standing in this same spot as I stare at the sky/
Clouds gather as I begin to want to cry/
The sun won’t ever come out so I can’t see the tears dry/
My fear is that this feeling will never stop/
All I feel at this point is wind and raindrops/
How you supposed to have hope for progression/
When the first black president is being blamed for recession/
Uneducated misinformed citizens/
Too hooked on their televisions and Ritalin/
To form their own opinions, only doing what they see/
Just a bunch a monkeys, why the fuck do they breathe/
Why do we allow the longest living disease/
Ignorance is a monster that’s devoured us for two hundred years/
Unable to live as peaceful peers/
We still call homosexuals queers/
If we can’t accept those that live among us/
How are we supposed to be a global economy/
When we living like every day is Halloween/
Lurking as goblins and gremlins with masks/
If you starving or broke why bother to even ask/
There ain’t a good soul left in this hell of a world/
I don’t ever see a time when the pain stops/
Until we learn to reconcile our differences/
The only result I’m seeing is wind and raindrops/
We still fighting a war that should’ve ended years ago/
All this blood and pain doesn’t seem to ever want to go/
Fuck the oil I’ll walk 6 miles to work/
We’ll get rid of two evils that way/
More children fall victim to obesity every day/
How are you a responsible parent/
When your eight year old weighs more than I do/
And this is what you take pride to/
Celebration of being fat and lazy in the streets/
If you living this way you shouldn’t be able to speak/
Don’t sue the place that gave you your stroke/
If you think the dollar menu is so dope/
Visiting every day without consequential thoughts/
Until your caught in the hospital/
Being shot with adrenaline/
By people that live to help you live again/
Like a alcoholic on the doner’s list/
The minute you back up your calling for shots/
But what happens the next time your breath stops/
And the last thing you hear is wind and raindrops/
