The question is too vague. Larkin’s tone is weary, ironic, resigned, comical. "Why should I let the toad work squat on my life." The verse is formal, restrained, and defiantly unexperimental; there is nothing new to be said, so why fuss with new forms? We get through life, bit by bit.
