Five Tips for Staying Positive

“No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit.” Helen Keller

Chances are good that if you’re reading this – given the title – you’re not feeling positive about today’s real estate market.

Well, let me relieve some stress. The market has been abnormally strong over the last four years, so the market is not a down market, it’s a traditional market, and anyone who’s been in real estate more than four years knows this. The market is doing what it does naturally; it’s adjusting itself.

So stop fretting about the market. If you’re not as busy as you want to be, then go over to the phone and start making calls. But before you pick up that receiver, here are five things to do:

1.Adjust you’re thinking. This is a nice segue from the introduction. You choose how you feel. A traditional market doesn’t make you feel any way; you make yourself feel the way you do. No one else, no event, nothing. It’s you. Period. If you like books, grab a copy of “The Traveler’s Gift” by Andy Andrews. He’s a big fan of personal responsibility and he’s about as motivational as they come.

2.Get a plan. I’ve been in the real estate consulting game now for 15 years and it still amazes me that many agents simply don’t operate like a business. The first item every business should have is a business plan. Without one, you’re sailing rudderless.

3.Set small goals. No doubt, part of your business plan will have goals. Make sure they’re realistic and small enough so that you can actually make headway with them. I often see starry-eyed agents who set these grandiose goals only to trip on them and fall into a big pile of discouragement.

4.Get an accountability partner. This may be a neighbor, a co-worker, a broker or a personal coach. But no matter who it is, this person is charged with making sure you’re striving for and reaching your goals. An outside perspective is essential.

5.Reassess your peer group. Take a look at who is around you in your daily life. Are they positive or negative? Helpful or hurtful? Toxic or healthy? It’s been said you should fear an evil friend more than a beast because a beast can wound your body, but an evil friend can wound your mind. Keep positive people near you at all times and purge the rest.

I’ll leave you with this thought: We’re all given the same opportunities in this life, and what you do with them is entirely up to you.

Best of luck to you!

Cognitive Therapy And NLP Approaches To Combat Depressive And Anxious Thinking

Changing the way you think in order to improve the way you feel, forms the basis of cognitive approaches to mental-wellbeing. Cognitive therapies recognise that our thoughts can affect our understanding of the outside world. Depressed people (i.e. people that practice depressed thoughts!) experience the world in a different way to others. For example, they may perceive colours less vibrantly, food can seem bland and unpleasant, and safe everyday situations can seem threatening. They often predict bad outcomes from actions and events where others would expect positive consequences. A depressed persons world is likely to be experienced significantly differently to a happy person’s. However, to an observer their circumstances could appear the same.

Cognitive therapy and related approaches such as NLP (neuro-linguistic-programming) are very effective at helping people recognise the thinking habits behind problems such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders and phobias. There are many cognitive techniques for testing negative thinking patterns and developing new more adaptive ways of thinking. If you are considering cognitive therapy, expect to commit to homework tasks and regular practise of these techniques.

Negative thoughts are usually fairly easily identifiable with the help of a therapist. In order to bring about a more global change, it’s often necessary to go beyond the thoughts we have to the deeper levels of our cognition – our beliefs.

Most people rarely think about their beliefs, how they developed, their role in guiding your life or whether they are helpful and supportive.

That’s because our beliefs have often been with us for a very long time. Very often we develop them in childhood. For example, a child may learn that ‘dogs are dangerous’ or ‘dogs are friendly’, depending on his experiences related to dogs. As that child grows up, it is likely that he will become more flexible in his belief about dogs, able to judge individual dogs for friendliness or dangerousness. This happens in most areas of our lives, as the more rigid beliefs from childhood, evolve and become more flexible as we develop.

However, this is not always the case. Sometimes negative beliefs develop due to trauma or consistent negative interactions or early life experiences. These beliefs often remain fixed in adulthood even though they hold the person back or negatively impact on their lives. Often they are taken as the absolute truth.

Beliefs form the core of your identity. Holding beliefs about yourself, your world and others that are unconstructive and not necessarily true, can be bad news for your self-esteem. Beliefs influence on your emotional experience and behaviour by colouring how you see the world.

Every belief you have is a generalisation or simplified way of viewing the world. Generalisations by their very nature are distortions. Often when I see clients for therapy it is possible to find a distorted belief behind the problem. For example ‘I am worthless’ is a belief, which promotes depression.

Your beliefs can actually determine outcomes. This is because your beliefs effect what you focus on or pay attention too. So for example, if you focus on being un-likeable, your unconscious mind will be on the lookout for examples of people not liking you and will find various ways to bring this to your attention. Whilst this is going on, you are of course ignoring evidence that shows you are in fact liked by all sorts of people.

I practice NLP, CBT therapy in Hertfordshire and I am also a hypnotherapist, Hertfordshire. People often come to see me with difficulties, which can be traced back to limiting beliefs e.g. “I am unattractive”, “I am a bad person”. Of course, it is not always obvious to them that they are holding onto damaging beliefs about themselves and their world, which prevent them from growing and developing or doing things they want too.

NLP and CBT therapy and Hypnotherapy, Hertfordshire has proven methods for empowering people to challenge and even eradicate illogical beliefs. The result can mean seeing the world in new and fresh ways.

What is a definition of emotional, personal and social development?

Hey i’m studying for my childcare exam and i can’t seem to get definition of emotional, personal and social development.. can anyone help me?

Emotional is -

In children, emotional development refers to the attainment of emotional capabilities and their expansion as the child grows. These capabilities enable the children to have feelings about what they do and also about others. Emotional development provides children the capabilities and skills that they need to function and survive in the society as well as the world. There are many different stages in the development of a child’s emotions and at each stage; the child learns a new kind of emotion. – see link below

personal is –

develops skills related to positive interpersonal relationships within the family, peer groups, work place, and community. …

social is -

Social development is learning the skills that enable a person to interact and communicate with others in a meaningful way. Social skills are closely allied to Emotional Intelligence (EI)- a kind of intelligence or skill that involves the ability to perceive, assess and positively influence one’s own and other people’s emotions. In order to interact effectively with others, one has to be able to monitor and control one’s own emotional state.

How to be a personal development speaker?

i want to have a career in self-help because i want to change the lives of people. before, i was in deep depression but just after reading some books on self-help, i have moved away from the miseries of life to life’s glory.

my question is this, do i have to take a specific graduate degree just to be able to be a motivational speaker? or at least to be in the self-help industry?

It’s not mandatory to have a graduate degree to be a motivational speaker. For instance, if you possess a magnetic personality or have tremendous charisma like say, Mahatma Gandhi, or Nelson Mandela, people will be drawn to you naturally and find whatever you say motivational.

But it helps to have the theories in mind. The people you want to motivate won’t all have the same experiences as you. They may have questions that they want answered, but you’re stumped because it’s beyond your experiential learning. Your advice needs to be based on knowledge (of theory or practice), or it becomes fanciful.

You don’t need to have a degree to be in the self-help industry. Just start helping people and in time you will be able to make a difference in people’s lives.

What is your biggest challenge with positive thinking and how do you deal with it?

I have a difficulty staying positive all the time. Does anyone have this challenge and what do you do about it?

well naturally ever since i was little i have been pessimistic, all i think about is the bad things that can happen EVERY WAKING MOMENT OF MY LIFE. like if i need to cut a piece of paper i see a "flash of the future" where i accidently cut my hand and bleed to death. And that is the way i think for everything, from walking from class to class to even sleeping!

what do i do about it you ask?
i can’t do anything but try and surround myself by optimistic/positive people and that will cloud over my own horrid thoughts, it helps while at school, not when at home. when at home i distract myself with a good book, so as you may imagine i have MANY books
