Finding Your Personal Motivation, part iii

When people find out that I am a “motivational speaker” they often ask me to motivate them as if it is something that I can do for them or to them. Motivation is internal and the ability to motivate yourself is something that you can learn to do if you set your mind to it. There are many different ways to build self-motivation and hundreds of techniques that you could use. What have you read that inspired you to continuous personal development?

i need more in deep to how has it inspired you, we are all different and we therefore take different things from different books so I am really looking for what u have taking from this boos which helps you to improve your personality.
Some of the books are not typical self-development books – they are inspirational in other ways, they can help to see life differently – to understand ourselves and others, to value life while we are here, and to use our life positively to the fullest.

It wasn’t anything I read – it was something my father told me.
He told me “never stop learning!”

I have to write a paper on personal values development help!?

the paper is suppose to examing your personal values, ground reules and/or ethics development. Focus on the development aspect rather than on a particular issue. Define what your values are and the source that helped shape them and the criteria and decision making factors you utilize to revise them. Also, discuss the piotential impact of your values and your performance in your workplace.

How do I even begin with this??? help thanks This is a college paper and not HS.

The question sounds tougher than it really is. Here’s what they’re asking you:

– What is important to you (values)?
– How do you make choices and decisions (ethics)?
– Where did you learn these values and ethical rules?
– Do you ever change your values/ethics? Why and how?
– How will they apply to your job?

Take me, for example. I grew up in a house filled with books, so I learned that reading, language, and literature are very important. This led me to study languages in college and to become a translator. In my job, I make sure that I translate texts using the best language skills I have.

You see now how to answer the question?

Passionate about personal growth and development—Looking for higher education opportunities or jobs?

I’m 22 years old and about to graduate college from Santa Clara University in the Bay Area. I’m incredibly interested in personal growth/development, social dynamics, etc. Does anyone know of any higher education opportunities or possibly career paths down this avenue? Any schools or teaching opportunities? (Psychology isn’t much of an interest unless someone knows a specific type of psychology that would be particularly useful for this) Thank you so very much for your help as I’m trying to pursue something that I love.

For what you say you want to do psychology would be the perfect career choice. There are many ways that working in the psychological field would help you to achieve these objectives. What do you think psychology is about if it isn’t to help people with their personal and social growth?? That’s what people go to therapist for to help with their own personal development and to learn how to get along better with the wider world around them. You should talk to some of the therapist in your school and some one one the staff in the psych department to see what they’ve been able to do with their lives. That would help you. But you would get better responses if you posted this in another area. This area if for parents and students who have learning disabilities.

How far does positive thinking really take you in life?The reason I ask is that I am working on changing my ..

attitude at the moment?What experiences do you have of positive thinking in your life?

I have a strange tale about positive thinking. It may not be what you had originally wanted as an answer but it may help all the same.

When I stopped smoking with Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking I forgot to follow one vital instruction which was Don’t try not to think about smoking. The more I tried to not to think about smoking the more I was obsessed with thinking about it. I would say to myself…”I don’t want to smoke”

Boy oh boy big mistake! In the end I was nearly crying after months of self torture. I re-read the appropriate chapter and realised if I simply say to myself “I am a happy non-smoker” and allow myself to think about being a happy non-smoker whenever my brain wants to then at least the struggle would be over. In fact I could not believe the shift. The obsessive thoughts went almost instantly.

It was almost like getting into a taxi and telling the driver where I did not want to go. The moment I used positive thoughts my brain took me there.

Positive thinking makes more sense and has a very direct result.

By the way, Allen Carr’s book is fabulous. It was my fault for not following the great advice he passed to me!

How has positive thinking changed your life?

If at all?

Im thinking of becoming +ve but i dont know if its worth all the thoughts i dont believe in
Thanks, just needed that motivation cause being so negative definately hasnt made things better. Definately helped :)

it has changed my life for better for a while… but it is important to be surrounded by people who think the same way you do, otherwise you get sucked up in the same routine.
it is worth trying though – worked miracles for many people, was really good for me. trying to get back into it.

thank you for reminding me about it by the way. :)))))) it is nice to see people trying to be positive.
